Our method

How we compare helicopter tours

Every flight brief on this site is built from the operator’s own published details, with the date we checked them and a link to the source.

How we choose flights

We pick flights that represent a choice a traveler faces: a short or long flight from the South Rim, a landing or no landing, a hotel shuttle or your own transport. We currently cover three Papillon flights. A flight is listed only when we can confirm where it departs, what kind of aircraft trip it is and whether it lands.

Which sources count

  • Operational facts, such as departure point, flight time and landing, come from the operator’s official pages.
  • Place facts come from the authority responsible, such as the National Park Service or Grand Canyon West.
  • Seller listings, once we add them, are evidence only of what that seller sells. We check each one separately.

Dates, conflicts and unknowns

Each brief shows when we last checked its sources. The date is when we did the research, not when the page was last rebuilt.

If an operator doesn’t publish a detail, we show it as not published or not confirmed. We never fill the gap with an estimate or a zero. If two official sources disagree, we show both and hold back any recommendation that depends on the difference.

Time

We keep time in the air separate from whole-trip time and say which basis each number uses. We never add a published total to its own parts. Read why this matters.

How recommendations are ordered

The finder first removes flights that don’t match your starting point or the experience you asked for. It then orders the rest by how well they fit, with a neutral tie-break. Commission never affects the order.

Seller links

This site does not contain affiliate links yet. Each brief links to the operator’s official tour page as a source. When we add booking links, each will name the seller, and we will mark the page with a short disclosure. If a seller requires you to choose an option after clicking, we will say which one.

Automatic checks and weather

We check the duration and planning sections of our three Papillon tour pages automatically once a day. A change, missing section or failed request is flagged in the flight desk and South Rim pages. The comparison uses a reviewed baseline, so a changed page stays flagged until its details are reviewed. This does not check every tour fact, ticket availability or prices, and does not automatically change a research date.

Airport observations come from the US National Weather Service at KGCN (Tusayan) and KBVU (Boulder City). We refresh the feed every 30 minutes and show both Fahrenheit and Celsius. The timestamp belongs to the observation, not our refresh. Observations more than two hours old are labeled older; after six hours we show them as unavailable. If the latest report lacks temperature, we may use a complete observation from the previous two hours, carrying its wind, conditions and timestamp together. We label an earlier report as the latest temperature observation. Missing readings stay unreported.

Airport weather cannot tell us whether your booking is running. Flights may be affected by weather elsewhere along the route, aircraft or scheduling decisions. Confirm operational changes with your operator.

Editorial reviews

Check dates record the latest source review for each entry. Tours, prices and policies can change between checks, so confirm current details with the operator before booking.
